We are traveling with a group this summer to either Cancun or to play de carmen and me and my 3 kids 12, 15, 19 want to dive while on vacation any recommendations on where to dive looking for lots of marine life and middle wants lots of turtles any help is appreciated?

Welcome to the forums! If at all possible I'd suggest going to Cozumel instead -- it's generally better for families and it also has better reef diving. You can always take a ferry over from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen if you want to visit the mainland for a day trip.

Cozumel is far better for diving than PdC which in turn is far better than Cancun.

Wherever you decide to stay, I would put a plug in for visiting Akumal if you want to see lots of turtles. It is 30 minutes south of PDC and 70 minutes south of Cancun. Akumal is a Mayan word that means “place of the turtle” because they love to eat the sea grass in that bay and there are always tons of turtles to see. You can go snorkeling off the beach (with a guide) and see lots of turtles, and there are 2 dive shops that are both high quality and will take you out scuba diving.

But I agree Cozumel will be a lot better scuba diving, and you’re likely to see a turtle or two diving in Cozumel too.

I've always seen turtles in Cozumel, but not every day. If turtles are a must, go to Akumal. But diving is far superior in Cozumel. If the main focus of your vacation is to dive, go to Cozumel. If it's to lie on beautiful beaches, go to Playa or Akumal, but check if it's sargassum season.
