I'm comparing dive plans generated by V-Planner with the results of the PC simulator that came with my Apeks Quantum computer. I'm interested in two-gas nitrox NDL dives because I'm taking the ANDI CSU course (it covers the use of two nitrox mixes up to 50%). My computer supports two nitrox mixes so I want to know how closely its behavour corresponds to dives planned using V-Planner.

If I enter the legs for a dive, V-Planner won't let me calculate the dive plan until I enter a surface interval. When I enter a surface interval, it opens up a second dive, even if I don't intend to do two dives. Why does V-Planner require the surface interval to be entered for a single dive? Am I missing something or is this just a "feature"?

Is there anything I need to know about V-Planner in terms of settings for looking at two-gas nitrox NDL dives? Just to be clear, I'm not planning dives requiring decompression, but I am trying to develop a better understanding of where the boundary between NDL and mandatory decompression dives is.

V-Planner needs to know how much time has passed since the last saved dive. That is why it requires a SI. The second dive tab appears, but there is no data in it until you set it up.

V-Planner uses the variable permeability model while the Apeks (Seiko) unit is standard Bulhmann. They are not comparable.

V-Planner's "second window" is just there to save time.

Did your instructor mention the use of andi planner, which is a version of GAP made for ANDI? It will give you real time tissue loading and give you ceiling information before you begin ascent.

That's what I thought, but I found it strange that it automatically created the tab for the second dive with no surface interval from the first dive. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

I realize the algorithms aren't the same, but since I'm not planning to do deco, it probably won't make that much difference. I'm looking at V-Planner because it's so easy to do "what ifs" using different depths, times, and gas mixes. I'll compare the results of V-Planner with the Apeks simulator to stay within the limits of the computer.

[Dave is referring to my instructor from the ANDI CSU course which I just finished taking.] We talked about both V-Planner and the ANDI planner. I'm going to get it from him and give it a try.
