I have the Suunto SK7 bungie mounted next to a separate slate, also bungie mounted. Recently I saw a PBS special on the uw caves of Florida - something to do with water quality/conservation. What struck me was that one of the divers was using a compass mounted on an uw slate on a retractor.
I've seen this configuration with AOW divers. Actually, my LDS uses this gear config to teach the UW Nav specialty. But, I haven't gone with this because 1) I didn't like idea of the slate bouncing around during the dive and 2) I like having my compass in front of me.
As a cave diver, I'm sure he has good reasons to go with this config. Unfortunately, I have a hard time understanding it. This isn't a big deal, but it was interesting to see how differently they rigged their equipment.
Can anyone shed some light?
