Considering a 7-night trip to Utila in late December of 2010. What kind of weather should we expect ... temps, winds, precipitation, etc? Thanks.

Not gonna lie about it! December is right in the middle of the rainy season, but in reality that can mean all kinds of different things. Rainy season is driven by cold fronts from States (what was snow in NA is rain in CA), these can run from a couple of days up to a week. It also means that in between cold fronts we have sunshine and warm weather and these periods often run longer than the rainy periods do. Last year was a very light rainy season and we had loads more sunshine than rain. Temperatures range from mid 70'sf to mid 80's.

Check out this movie on YouTube YouTube - cayos cochinos utila honduras from alton's dive center short it was made over two trips on Christmas Day 2008 and the second 1 week later on News Years Day. Just the period you are suggesting to visit.

In order to make these trips we good weather (by which I mean favorable winds, seas, etc) and we make more during the Dec, Jan, Feb, March than any other time of year. You'll see although the weather isn't classic cloudless Caribbean blue skies it's more than enough to burn and for you to want to keep in the shade!

You would also get the little spoken of Christmas/New Year whale shark bonus! We often get great encounters during the last two weeks of December.

YouTube - Utila Whale Shark with Altons Dive Center was filmed by one of our customers in 2008. That same Christmas day we also went swimming with dolphins.
