Pure strokery. I would not/could not dive that configuration. How many points of failure are there in this setup?
A year later, and I still stand behind this assertion. :D
 
Listened to another UTD podcast today “Unified Teem Diving Podcast #99 - advanced rebreather training- Ben’s talk art DEMA

They are now talking about using their “DIR” principles being applied to rebreathers.

I need to listen to it again, this time not screaming at the radio (iPhone playing through the car stereo).

I really have a problem with people trying to argue that you can only have one way of doing things, i.e. long & necklaced hoses on a rebreather.

I inferred from this podcast that UTD are looking at large cylinders on CCR obliterating the main advantage of a lighter backmount unit and flexible gases. Maybe that podcast was videoed.

Their rebreather design is the same as a GUE boat rig, just based around the SF2 instead of the JJ.

Interesting rebreather choice. The proven, flexible and highly regarded JJ vs the low volume and quirky SF2 with counterlungs around the diver's backside for maximum WOB when out of trim.

Almost as if they chose a self contained rebreather because it wasn't a GUE JJ.

See what they make of the SF2 when they’re in a current deeper than 80m (especially with that extra drag they’re engineering)
Once on a boat off Ireland and when the 2 fellas on SF2 got back on the boat they were relieved, one now has a rEvo the other a JJ… but another story entirely,
(Their philosophy should be based around a kiss classic imo)

Back to the DIR,,,, it’s an April fool right? I mean seriously? A bit of nark in zero viz and what are you meant to do?

Why would you consider the SF2 quirky? I love mine. No, I'm not DIR, but I wouldn't mind a DIR answer. In fact, I would prefer it.

The SF2 is essentially an eCCR version of the RB80 so doesn't surprise me at all that UTD chose it for their platform.
