I posted this on the general discussion forum and someone directed me here. I got my open water certification almost a year a go and haven't been diving since. If there are any experienced divers in Utah that wouldn't mind a newbie tagging along on a couple dives let me know. I don't know anyone who goes diving. I would like to get in a dive once every two or three months to keep my skills fresh. Who knows I might get a chance at a diving trip someday.

Welcome aboard. Check this out for diving in Utah. www.utahdiving.com/crater.htm.

I would highly recommend a refreshed class at this time. Since you have not dove in a year, and you were fresh out of OW to begin with, I'd say do the class, or find an instructor to dive with you.

Jeff, you don't say what area in Utah you are. I too live in Utah and have a hard time getting dive time. If your interested in diving our lovely Utah lakes here, there is an LDS in my area (Salt Lake) that has a club that you can join . They have group dive alongs to Blue Lake, Sea Base, Strawberry, Fish Lake, Bear Lake, Lake Mead, Lake Tahoe.
I would like to join in with them but, they are either on Saturdays -which I always work - or are a 2, 3, or 4 day trip. Which would mean I'd need to use vacation time. If I'm using vacation time, then I'm going to be diving somewhere warm with good vis. Not some cold murky Utah, (or Nev.) lake. So go ahead, call me a WWW (warm water wussie)
PM me if your interested and I'll send you the info to the dive shop.

is that place open year round? I hit salt lake every march for a Novell envent..
I think it is. I must tell you though. It is a VERY Boring place to dive. "I" think that the only reason to go there is if you never have before and to dive it just for the novelty of it. It is just a big hole in a crater, water temp is ??? (very warm) you could swim nekid if ya wanted. (they probably won't let ya though.)
There is ZERO life, fish or otherwise there. They have a platform at 15-20 feet, and some PVC pipe triangles and squares to swim through but, that's about it.

I was @ the Crater about 2 weeks ago. The water was 101 at the bottom. I was up there doing so boyancy stuff. Anyway To the question about is it open year round yes it is, If anyone has any questions let me know.

Thanks,
Paul
