Saw the sinking of the Oriskany on the afternoon news today. Just curious as to who from this board will be the first to dive it. When you do, please give details! :D :D It'll be a while before I have the skills and the time to see it.

I may go this weekend. I saw her sink today and it was pretty depressing. Apparently, she's on her side.

Has this been visually confirmed ... or is this still speculation ?

It's speculation based on the way we saw her go down -- listing to starboard. It's possible she's upright, but no one is very hopeful. She did have anchors all around that should have kept her from rolling over, but, it did look as if she was going to starboard.

I'll bet I know who the first ones will be on the wreck, I'll let you know if I'm right or not later :D

mbtdivers.com reports 90% positive she is upright, nobody will know for at least 24 maybe 48 hours.
This is agony!
It was a sad and glorious sinking, everyone keep those fingers crossed that she's upright and we can pay our respects.
To answer the question my buddy and I are booked to dive her on the 17th of june [if she's upright]

I read where the Navy EOD squad would be going down within 12 hrs of her sinking to insure that everyting is OK and to make sure it sank as they planned. They also were going to be taking some depth measurements and do some safety checks.
