Using A Long Hose Isn't Just For Tech Divers

Well...to give him some credit...I could easily envision someone wearing a 7 ft hose...just because it looks techy. I found that when I was doing warm water wimp diving...the 7 ft was a PITA...and I went to a 40in hose and that was much nicer YMMV.

Sorry to ask a constructive question in the middle of everyone else's p!ss!ng match, but...

How do you route the 40" hose. Under your right arm? If so, doesn't that make a big loop to the right of your reg that would be about the same as you get with the "standard" hose? I'm considering a (gasp!) fixed 90° connector to allievate (sp?) that loop.

We should all ignore the benefits of the long hose, after all it was first used by cavers so no one else can use it according to some. W. that said, we should all either quit diving or join the french Navy!

Theres a TV show called "Tactical to Practical" They show how things that were first used/created in the military have found their way down to civillian use and benefit everyone...kinda like the long hose and tech/rec.

Do you remember were they got the water for the tang? yeah a little history always helps. and even if your not an astronaut you can mix tang without water , It just tastes like pi**

When I was a kid I remember this German kid showing up an school wearing lederhosen (sp?)
Anyway the poor kid did not enjoy recess that day. Looking back wish I had the b@lls to help him but I didn't. He was a pretty cool kid, just different.
There is a pack mentality that exists on this board that rears it's ugly head frequently

I use the 7' hose only in cave or overhead dives, with the secondary on the necklace. In open water OOA practice, I find that I WANT the OOA diver close to me. On my open water rigs the regulators are on 5' hoses, and I consider EACH to be used for air sharing at any given time.

This might be an argument for another thread, but if I'm out of gas at depth, whether I did an OOA drill earlier in the dive or not, I want the reg in my buddy's mouth. I know it's working RIGHT NOW and I know he has enough gas on his back to get us both back. Would you be diving with the pony "always on"?

I'm not taking sides here, just curious...

If you are out of air at depth, how can you be sure that your buddy isn't?

If your bungied backup is 'always on,' and a standard secondary is 'always on,' what's wrong with a pony being 'always on?'

Would that be all together for a grand totall, or has some of these people been diving for more than two years , counting baths as dives because they dipped their head under the water.

Please tell me witch divers have more than 27 years of diving, And I'll show you someone who agrees with me
