Watch for LDS sales of rental gear in the fall. A lot of times the BCs and other gear will go very cheap.
Also, you will probably be able to get a better fit with BP/wing. Keep an eye out for these as well. The only thing to fit is the length of the BP if you're extra tall and how much lift your wing needs. There are some great deals on used BP/wings as folks start moving to sidemount.

Like to second Dr. Tracy's suggestion about the fall sales. Also, around that time you can sometimes find great deals on wetsuits as the dealers get the new styles and such. I went to one LDS for a TIRISI presentation and saw he had the years Aqualung wetsuits on clearance for like $75 brand new.
