Hello,

We are arriving in Roatan on April 10 (Good Friday) and are having a tough time finding a way to Utila at that time and on that date. Because it is Good Friday, it seems that everything is pretty much closed down.

Originally, our flight was to arrive in the morning and we had made arrangements to sail across with Vernon Fine. With our later arrival, this is no longer possible.

I have contacted a charter flight company, but have not heard back from them.

Does anyone have any knowledge of either charter companies or boats that could do this in the evening?

Normally I suppose we would stay over in Roatan that night but because it is a holiday weekend, none of the hotels are willing to rent a room for just one night. Besides, we would miss a day of diving... :(

Any contacts or bright ideas would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi Steve,

We get in to Roatan about 5:05 if all goes according to plan. What time is Utila International ;) closing up these days?

LOL... well thank you. I think we had better resign ourselves to a night in Roatan. It's not like that's a bad thing... Since my initial post, we have come up with a couple of spots willing to take us in for the night.

I was starting to consider tide tables and depending on the current, wondering how long the swim would take...

Hi

I have actually been waiting for dusk, its 6.15pm and its now just dusk I would say that a plane could fly in at the moment till 6pm, but what you have to remember is that he has got to take off after and get back to Roatan.

Of course. Do they close Roatan airport down at dusk as well?

I just sent you a PM btw...

Swimming would be pretty rough, but I suppose if you're a really excellent wind surfer....

A night in Roatan is not so bad, maybe you can get a night dive in, or a quick dive the next morning before taking off. Since Vern leaves from the coconut tree pier, check into going on the morning dive with them and then getting on Vern's boat. Just a thought.

Take the Galaxy Ferry to La Ceiba on Saturday morning. Then the Utila Princess over to Utila.

The Galaxy leaves Dixon Cove at 7AM, arrives around 815-8:30. The Princess leaves LC at 9AM, you'll be there by 10. Not as much fun as Vern's boat but I think it's faster. They share the dock in La Ceiba so there's no problem with transferring. Be diving b4 noon...

Safeway Maritime Ferry - Roatan to La Ceiba
Utila Princess Passenger Ferry Service

Going back, the 6:20 Princess puts you in LC before 7:30. Then the 9:30 Galaxy puts you on Roatan at 10:45. It's 15mins. back to the airport.

Saturday isn't an issue. We were able to get a flight then, it was Friday that was the issue (and I understand that the ferry wasn't running Friday.)

We have since booked with Vern for Saturday afternoon. We might look into getting a dive in on Saturday AM since we aren't flying now.

I like the wind surfing idea... hadn't thought of that one!
