I have the UK Light Cannon as a main and now this 3 Luxeon LED torch as a secondary.

In brightness it is about 80% of the LC (w/ fresh batteries) but it lasts 18h on 4 AA batteries. Nice..but difficult to get...

Check it out at www.fa-mi.com

Any thoughts on the Photon Torpedo ? I've been thinking of getting a pair, but haven't finalized my decision yet...

I have three LED lights from Tektite

Aluminum, Ltd. Edition 19 LED light ............very nice and durable backup light with good burn time
A 7 LED light with seemingly endless burn time
and a 2 LED light I use for hooking up gear on a dive boat or at the shore at night

I've been very happy with all 3 lights

The Photon Torpedo is a great backup light. Not so great as a primary.

Tom Winters:
i have to agree on the Photon Torpedo. Gulftex does not make much, but what they make is top-notch, although I'm still leery of the stainless steel DIN plugs.

I was wondering the point of SS din plugs too, until I read accounts of people with the plastic plugs accidentally cracking open the valve, and having the plastic shoot across the room, doing 7-10 stiches worth of damage on their fingers on the way. After reading that, it seems to me that threaded SS is the only way to go if one is going to do a DIN plug.

Just to complete the hijack of this thread, I wasn't convinced about SS DIN plugs until I had a valve crack open on 250 cf of deep mix. The tab for the wasted gas, charter fees and a tank of gasoline was close well over $200 - enough to pay for a mess of plugs.

Dillon...
What have you gotten yourself into this time? It sounds like you are talking about getting separated from a boat at night? Have you considered some of the smaller flashing units that have strobes. They last a long time, and have much brighter flashes than a conventional light.

Some SMBs even have a loop at the top where you could connect one of these strobes to make it more visible over the water.

If I did a lot of boat diving at night, I'd have one of these strobes, and/or some flares. The strobes can also be used to mark an anchor line at night or in poor viz.

I just lent one out to a guy who's doing a 98m (323') dive in about a week. Will report back how it goes :eyebrow: I've heard they've been to 400' before without issues.

The delrin DIN plugs do go pop - check out the picture on my website:

So sorry for this huge delay in replying to this thread LOL! I though that it was dead LOL!

So sorry Jim, I did not check to see any further replies!

BTW, I'm just interested to know more about lights in emergency situations not that I want to get myself in any of them...LOL!

I heard from a dealer that when one of his friends drifted too far away from the boat his Longbow Eco was how he got 4 boats to his rescue in broad daylight... very impressive read if you get my drift.

Sooooo, I just wanted to know if the a secondary light would be used as a signaling device too.

Anyway, I found this on ebay, Shake light, no batteries needed.

Is it any good or just a gimmic?

Best regards,

SangP
