Unresponsive diver pulled from ocean near San Pedro
SAN PEDRO >> A diver remains unresponsive inside a hyperbaric chamber at the Isthmus of Santa Catalina Island, after being pulled from the Pacific Ocean in San Pedro Saturday by a fellow diver.
The U.S. Coast Guard was notified of the rescue about 6.5. miles south of the Angels Gate Cultural Center, 3601 S. Gaffey St., at 10:22 a.m., said U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Mark Barney.
The driver was with another diver when he became unresponsive while underwater. He was eventually pulled out of the water and put aboard a 45-foot Coast Guard boat and taken to a hyperbaric chamber at the Isthmus of Santa Catalina Island, where he remains unresponsive, Barney said.
A Los Angeles Fire Department land and sea response was sent to the location to assist county lifeguards and the Coast Guard, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
