underwater video housing selection limited if not sony , WHY

I have a Dolphin from Ocean Images for my Sony and it works well. They also carry a G1/G2 Housing:

I use the top dawg, now for 5 years. Yes its a generic type housing for any camera with the Lanc jack. Thats fits most sonys and many cannons. I have it neutral, and that makes it heavy above water. I have my second camera in it and no fear that I will not be able to a third into it. At the time I bought it seemed to be the best at MY budget.

Gates makes a very nice housing for the GL-2

i looked at gates site and only saw a housing with manuel controls for the xl1s and thats a cam set i would really like but i dont have 5k for the proper set up (batts, ma 200, mic's etc) and then close to another 5k for the housing.
