I'm curious- WHY would anyone want to listen to MP3's while underwater?

Two reasons that I can think of, besides "I want to listen to music"
1. Long deco stops
2. Narrative tours of reefs or wreck sites. Ever done the tour of Alcatraz with the walkman's, same premise. Seems to me I heard NC was going to do this for the Blackbeard wreck.

I know of one guy who uses it on his Deco, the sound quality is not that good to me. This same guy also has a very modified pee valve (uses batteries) on his dry-suit........hmm.

I was wondering the same thing.

BTW, we once met a solo diver up in Tobermory who had rigged up his own version of an u/w music device. He liked Pink Floyd. ;)

One of my good friends had an U/W MP3 player and I have borrowed it a few times. I believe it is the Oceanic Case with the iRiver MP3 player and it worked quite well. I used it on a night dive and had some really good relaxing music to listen to. It provided a unique combo and felt almost like a dream. They are still a little pricey (from $298.95 - $478.95, depending on memory size) for me to buy my own, but I will borrow hers whenever she lets me. :D

I have one of the Mp3 players from oceanic. The sound is great but only in the case because it has an amplifier in it. it was designed to use underwater not on the surface. its very kool for deco stops and when diving on wrecks makes a nice effect to the dive. the only thing that makes it a bit scarey to use is that it hangs on your mask which I can see would be a hinderance if you have to air share .I have the 258mb player and it holds about 15 songs thats plenty for a dive and you can even listen to the radio when you are down.

Weird I was just going to post the same thread. I've been looking at the Oceanic one http://www.oceanicworldwide.com/p_mp3player.html So any feedback? Maybe someone from the DIY section will make me one :eyebrow:
