I wear the quick-dry swimming shorts that Speedo makes - take your wetsuit off, and they're dry in about 5 minutes, and they just look like a pair of shorts. Admittedly, when putting the wetsuit on over the top of them, there's a bit of hand-down-the-wetsuit action tucking them down flat, but once they're adjusted, I never notice them again until I'm taking the wetsuit off.

I had the same problem with swim shorts. The constant "hand down the wetsuit", bunching problem and the discomfort of creases in the short led me to neoprene shorts. I'm using a 0.5mm neoprene short. Unfortunately they are a little pricey but they are worth it. They are comfortable and dry really fast.
