Steve,
I am gonna dive the U 85 on July 24 with OBX. I wil be down there for vacation. You are more than welcome to join us. Just call down and make a res on the boat with OBX.
Thanks Gary - it looks like we may go down this weekend. Still undecided though.

OBX is an acronym used for outerbanks. If you come to NC you'll notice that just about every other car that rides by has a white oval sticker with black letters OBX in it.
The OBX they are talking about is a dive shop at Nags Head that goes by that name.

On a side note, are these oval white stickers the craze in other states. I see them here with OBX (outer banks), HI (hatteras island), TI (topsail island), heck even LKG (lake gaston). Just curious if this was a state wide thing or nation wide thing.

The ones from Baltimore say "HUN"... which is a Baltimore term. As in "Hey hun, I'm goin' downy oshun for some crabs and beer".

I saw an OBX sticker on a van in Seattle last week (with WA plates). It seems they are eveywhere. Go figure.....

FWIW, I have a slot reserved for Sunday the 3rd.

They're a fad that caught on in the various sport communities. Each sticker had a distinctive shape that showed your hobby so to speak. The regular circle one was to show that you were an OBX resident. Surfers have an elongated version that's kind of a sideways elipse. There is one for fishing, hang-gliding, parasailing etc.

It was basically the equivalent of putting a dive flag on your car. I say "was" because they were originally a thing for the locals, but now they're sold in every souvenir shop at the coast. So they're a joke and a way to spot a tourist. Kind of like the "I <3 NY" shirts.

It looks like we will be diving off VA Beach on Sunday now. Saving the U85 trip for late July when it might be warmer (my wife isn't as hot blooded as me)

Steve,
Larry and I are diving Monday on the Luckenbach with Lynnhaven
Hmmm. Mark Vlahos might also be joining us, but he is more leaning towards using the Flying Fish due to Lynnhaven's assanine attitude when it comes to cancellations and refunds. What do you think of the Luckenbach?

Wreckmasters is going to the Stanchion on Monday - ever heard of that?

It might be a bit warmer on the surface but you're not going to get a noticable change in bottom temperature.
