I friend at work was trying to help his hometown buddy get some money out of some older dive gear. I brought the reg and knife home. The reg ,1st & 2nd stage are the model "CALYPSO". The first stage has 1 HP and 3 LP ports. The 2nd stage is all metal and chromed, except mouth piece of course. The console has a tank press. guage that goes up to 3500 psi and a depth guage that goes to 200ft.

The U.S. Divers Aqua-Lung knife has a 7 in blade, is pointed and serrations on top. The handle is an olive drab green plastic with a brass butt. The whole knife measures 12in. long. This knife is pretty darn heavy and in great shape.

Does anyone know anything about these items? Is the reg still worth diving with? I have all new gear and back-up so I'm not planning on useing it, just curious. Is this stuff more for a collector or what?
Thanks for any info or help,
Steve:god:

Without seen some pictures, I can’t tell from sure, but it sounds that the Calypso is the one from the 70’s. Is the shape a horizontal cylindrical shape with the yoke a permanent part of the body.

If it is the one I am thinking of, it is a good regulator, but the first stage seat is not available anymore. I know of several people that still dive them because they are very rugged and even with an old seat they often work fine.

The first stage uses a flow through piston design.

The second stage can be easily serviced and it is a fine second stage. It is a basic simple down stream demand valve.

If you can post pictures I can confirm which one it is.

I have the service diagrams for the 70’s Calypso is you decide to try to service it.

The knife…well, that is a knife…not intended for spreading butter.

Thanks for the reply Luis.

I'll try to get a picture of it and post.

Yes, as you described.
What would you offer someone for this 1st & 2nd stage reg? Remember, he just wants to unload it and doesn't dive anymore.
Thanks,
Steve

Below are some diagrams to that regulator. The model with multiple LP ports was just a bit later, but only the cap was different (item 1).

The seat (item 12) is unique to this regulator and if it needs replacing it could turn out to be very hard to find. Only new old stock (NOS) would be available.

Someone gave me one of those regulators and I haven’t even tested in on a tank. I just have too many projects with other vintage regulators, etc.

I have seen them for sale on eBay, but never paid attention for how much they sale... if they sold. Sorry I can’t really help you with price. If it was a friend I might give $50, but even that is just a guess. Hopefully someone else can help with a price.

This diagram is for a Conshelf, but the second stage is the same:

Thanks again Luis. The 1st & 2nd stage are a Calypso IV.

Thanks for the help,
Steve

I have bought several of these off Ebay for $10-25 (bid+SH) so anything over $25 is about all your going to get.
Nice regs but there are tons of them on the used market and with parts not available, only collectors are interested.

Thanks Herman,
I guess I'll offer him $10 for the regs and maybe another $15 for the knife.
Take care,
Steve
