The British evidently intercepted a message from the German U-Boat that reported a gap in the Irish Sea minefield. The British then positioned deep mines that allowed ships through, but exploded the deeper U-Boats.

This is brand new information according to the article.

I personal feel someone has the wrong end of the stick. I was told in school MANY years ago that the British did this.
