If you need to use the yellow second stage, put it on a black long hose. Get a new neutrally coloured second stage with a black short hose and necklace that.

Or... buy good primary 2nd stages so both you and your buddy have good performance delivery of gas when you need it the most. (Stressed divers breathe more, and need good performance from their regs)

No drinking mate, just enough respect not to come into DIR and behave like a giggling moron, no problem

Do you have a drinking problem?

I recently made a spare XTX40 octo black with about $50 worth of parts. You can easily get all the bits to do the same for an MTX-RC.
Been looking for that for my yellow Apeks octo. Cannot locate. Where did you see these? Thank you!

Those parts are what you'd need to take an XTX40 or XTX50 yellow octo and make it completely black (not like, literally turn it into a XTX40 or XTX50 respectively). If you google Apeks along with those part numbers you'll likely find some vendors selling the parts directly. Your local Aqualung shop can also get them from their distributor and install them for you if that's easier.

Might not be worth it for a yellow XTX40 or XTX50, and actually better off just selling your octo and buying a new black XTX50 second. Definitetly not worth it for an MTX-R or MTX-RC, for some reason those black/grey MTX parts are significantly more expensive than the XTX parts.

*sigh* Thank you for the honest input. I don't even have my MTX yet and it's already been "an experience" in cost and delay.

Very late to the party
I’m not a fan of yellow stuff, but putting tgat aside, why should the color of the reg make any difference?
Haven’t we seen enough threads roasting “green reg/hose… for easy Notox”; good procedure is good procedure — wanna have it colored ON TOP that’s up to your aesthetic choices
OP is techhy, so you should be comfortable anyways donating the appropriate working reg to an ooa diver before they grab off your necklace— regardless which is blk/yellow

I would make them both black, but not because it’s safer— just cuz I don’t like yellow 🤷🏽‍♀️

Because the MTX-RC octo is a lot cheaper than the primary ones :) Good idea about the hoses in yellow
Any idea why would it be cheaper? Is it a lower performing reg with fewer features for ex: lack of air balancing /venturi /adjustable knob?

Apeks has very conveniently small sized hose protectors (barely a few inches) in yellow - they slide off very easily for a quick rinse unlike the Scubapro type that you have to fight with every time. I was thinking of getting the yellow ones myself for my primary long hose since I primarily dive recreationally with insta buddies. So your main reg could be the regular black and the yellow hose protector on it just a hint …

Weirdly named, apples and oranges, and not very friendly once you've bought into the MTX line.

The "MTX-RC Octo" is NOT quite the same as an MTX-RC second stage, but in yellow. While it has a does have a venturi lever, it lacks a WOB knob. An "MTX-R Octo" is pretty much the same as an grey MTX-R second, as it lacks both a venturi lever and a WOB knob. I've never heard a good reason why, but a MTX-RC second in black/grey isn't even an official SKU available standalone, at least not in the US, so you need to go to a grey market overseas retailer if you want to just buy an grey MTX-RC second standalone for a primary donate single tank configuration. If you're setting up an MTX-RC set for doubles its much easier, you just buy two "MTX-RC" kits each with a first and second stage.
