If I'm going with the wing option am I going to need a stabilizing adapter? I'm assuming I would or the tank would wobble, right?

R..

The Mares Wing has built in stabilizers.

Tank position has always felt pretty solid to me. Once in a while, I'll jump and realize I didn't get the waist strap or shoulders fully tightened and I'll feel the BC ride up - but that's easily fixed underwater with a couple pulls on the straps. I do a lot of photography and end up on my side, back, and upside down quite often, I've never felt any stability issues.

I think air does get trapped sometimes on one side of the bladder or the other, especially when head down. I haven't every noticed that it affects trim, but I'll hear the air moving around if I roll upright as it redistributes.

Thank you. This is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to get.

One follow up question, when you are diving did you ever have the feeling that that tank rolled from side to side when you tilted to the right or the left while swimming?

It's just that the combination of a soft backback and single cam band has me wondering. They may have designed it well enough that it doesn't happen but it leaves me wondering why they didn't just put two cam bands on it.

I intend to use the BCD with AL-80's

Apeks' single tank wings also have anti-roll stabilisers

Thanks. Now I know what to look for. The Apeks singles wing has something very similar. BTW, is that you in those videos? I love that accent!

R..

You are welcome and yes that is me.

Mares make some great kit, but they over-brand their stuff, particularly their harness systems and hardware.
I don't like being anyone's billboard.

Business 101, Advertise, Advertise, Advertise. But I understand why you feel that way.

Hi, I'm just learning about bp/w. What is a tank stabilizer, Do you have a video or pic on that. How does it prevent roll. Where are you located? Thanks

We are locate at 420 Taylorsville Beach Ct., Taylorsville, North Carolina. In this picture, I have highlighted the tank stabilizer.

@Dave Kay a tank stabilizer is just a metal bracket that clamps onto the tank on one side (usually with cam bands) and literally screws into the backplate on the other side. This delivers 100% guarantee that the tank cannot move independently of the backplate (ie. wobble). See below for a picture of what it looks like.

This is only relevant for a single tank because double tanks are held together with a bracket and they screw straight into the backplate.

What we were just discussing is that there are now a number of wings on the market with built in "bars" that hold the tank so it cannot roll from side to side independently of the backplate. The last time I bought a wing these things didn't exist, which is why I was asking if I needed a stabilizer or not.
