Hmmm... I didn't realize that manatees were only seasonal residents in parts of Florida before power plants and other thermal discharges warmed up the water. Interesting! I occasionally see them in the harbor at my parents' place in Sarasota.

Good point.
I worked on the Crystal River power plant in 1972 and we never saw them during the winter except a few at the headwaters of the springs, and now they’re everywhere – all year. Like so many snowbirds in this state, they come for the season and then decide to stay year round.
