A tanker carrying 1.5MM liters/400k gallons of industrial oil sank in 110' of water, close to the mouth of Manila Bay, in a typhoon, on July 25. A crew member perished. A second tanker carrying an unknown quantity of oil sank in 30' of water on July 27. The spills are around 160k/100m from Verde Island. Here's a Wikipedia article which appears to be current, and a newpaper report about the first sinking.
An admiral of the Philippines Coast Guard "likened the situation to the sinking of an oil tanker carrying 210,000 gallons of fuel off the coast of the Central Philippines in March 2023. The ensuing spill took roughly three months to fully contain, and it damaged surrounding coral reefs, spread to six provinces, and significantly impacted the local fishing and beach resort industries."
The vessel involved in last year's disaster had about half as much oil aboard as the one which sank last week, although it sounds like the escape is, so far, relatively minimal; divers were able to close valves which stopped at least some of the escape.
