I'm just getting back into the water after too many years, and had a great opportunity to buy a neighbor's equipment. You know how down here in South Florida, tons of people thought they were going to be divers, so they bought the gear, and now it collects dust in the garage?

That's how my neighbor was. So, included in the stuff was a Tusa Imprex II, IQ-400.

I snagged the operators manual from the Tusa website, and it says I can replace the battery, but doesn't tell me how.

There are 4 screws on the back, with the warning "Do not remove screws". Two heads are sealed with red lacquer, and the other two are not. I removed those, but the back would not budge.

Anybody know what's up. Calls to local shops (and Tusa dealers) are not productive. Guess I sound like I'm cheap. I just don't want to pop for an expensive computer to use for occasional, no decompression, air dives.

Hmm - on Page 37 of 47 total (manual page 35),

this copy of the manual says service including battery replacement requires special tools and training and is to be done by an authorized TUSA dealer - but also that you should check the battery compartment for moisture by looking at the transparent battery cover. Weird that your calls to dealers haven't been able to help - you'd think they'd be happy to perform the service since only they are authorized by TUSA evidently.

May be time for you to 'kick it up a notch' and call or e-mail the TUSA North American distributor and see if they'll help you out. Hit the link for 'Contact Us' at www.TUSA.com for the electronic contact entry form.

Or, you can try e-mailing or PM'ing Scubatoys since they're TUSA dealers - they have a great reputation for helping folks out.

The Tusa IQ-400 is a Suunto Favor in disguise.....you're going to have to take it in to get the battery changed. Call around and ask for dealers who handle Suunto and Aqualung products.

I own 3 of these, they're great little computers for air-only diving.

first thing I can tell you is you probably don't need the battery changed. When you turn it on... don't look at the battery icon... but how many bars light up along the bottom when the icon comes on. I have rentals that have gone diving every week for years, and their batteries are still good. '

If it really is bad... we charge $15.00 including the battery.
