I just purchased a new BC. after long search, i finally decided to get the BC-3800 Tusa Platina Evolution. i get it, talk to a dive shop...and they basically let me know its junk!

are most dive shops like this when they dont sell a particular brand? they said the same thing about my Reg. (Mares).

I guess i'd really like some opinions about Tusa in general.....whats the deal?

TUSA is a good brand they make reasonably price gear and are not the SP nor the ***** (put in low priced off brand here). I have used their regs and found them to be fine, friends use the BC and have the same opinion. The loner set of gear on my day charter boat is a TUSA reg and BC. Change your LDS they are bashing something they don’t know.

Tabata is fairly big name in Asian gear. TUSA is Tabata USA. The Japanese make pretty good equipment, even when they manufacture it elsewhere. For years TUSA manufactured SP regs.

I'll agree... we sell a lot of Tusa, and use some for our rental gear as well... they really have somehow slid under the radar as a not very well known line - but actually their stuff is much better than some other known names... And when it comes to customer service - they are one of the best in the business. For example, if purchased from an authorized dealer, their regs have lifetime free parts... hard to beat.

I have used TUSA gear on a number of occasions some of their regs (RS130 and RS230) are solid breathers but not great. Their BC's on the other hand are really great and I actually considered buying the Platina Evolution but I got a Sea-Quest for the same price. Most of the professors at my university use TUSA they have logged many dives with no problems. As for you Mares reg tell them that Mares is one of the best selling regs around, my only real problem with Mares regs is that some models have a really stiff purge.

It always amazes me when a LDS bashes another company. It seems to me that they are just asking to lose customers. If you use that diveshop again (I wouln't) ask them exactly what they do not like about TUSA BC's. I am willing to bet that they do not have a decent explanation.

thanks for the feedback! your right about an explanation...all i got was "...because i've been around dive equipment for 25 years." not really the explanation i was looking for.

No, they are not asking to lose customers...they just dont know any better when it comes to customer relations and they think since the brand they carry wont let them carry any other brand, then all other brands are less than good..... because of course, they would only carry the best.

I call it the LESS THAN HONEST reason approach to salesmanship. Instead of just saying we can only carry a particular brand, and we chose "this" brand, and we did because we feel it is good equipment, please allow us to show you something that we think could better fit your needs and hopefully you will decide when you need something else...or a new bc and reg....to come see and buy from us instead. Everything they dont carry is crap.....easier for a simple mind.

just my 02

My initial reg and BCD were TUSA (RS130 reg and Imprex Pro BCD) ... both were good performers for the price. I wouldn't have any hesitancy recommending TUSA products, based on my experiences ...

I dive with the TUSA BC-3800. I bought it last July and it has prob 50 dives on it. I love it. I think the reason I like it so much it fits me better than many others I have used. Its not the most expensive but its also not the cheapest. An opinion from a dive shop is just that, an opinion. They dont sell that brand so its not any good.

Thats great news for me! i'm glad to hear that from a user of the same equipment too. Have you ever looked into changing out the oral inflator? I've seen the replacement for the Tusa BC that will turn it into an Octo/Inflator. Just curious.

Thanks!

Search for the Air2 threads some run into flame wars(all the major manufacturers make an octo inflator), you will open a long discussion with the octo inflator question. They are loved or hated not much middle ground.
