I see your point but if the line is loose enough to stretch the spring over your heel isn' that still a concern?
If not it wouldn't be a big deal for me to run some through there.

Stretching over your heel is no big deal. It is when something gets caught on your fin and pulls it, or when you reach to grab your fin from under your other gear that you can pull the spring to far. If you are careful, I would not worry about the line too much. However for me it is just an extra piece of mind to help protect a $45 investment. It's up to you though. If you ever borrow your fins to someone else though, I would put the line in right away. I have also been on boats before where someone was looking at my "cheap old clunky fins" and started pulling on the springs. :upset:
