I'm sure as an annexation clause the native population would get special dispensations for property use and ownership. Hawaii has something similar enacted. In fact 'cuz Canada tends to be more culturally and environmentally "progressive" than the U.S., I expect you canooks to do an even better job managing population pressures, environmental quality, and social programs.

I am SO disappointed that Nova Scotia and Newfoundland didn't join the U.S. when Quebec threatened to secede a few years back. We haven't acquired Baja California yet either, or Cuba. I can keep on dreaming I suppose... :frown2:

Uh...do a bit of historical reading on these guys...they want Canada to help out with their debt etc. Not a great trade...unless we throw in Quebec in an even exchange...(Western Canadian now ducking...:D)

I think we could trade Quebec for Puerto Rico EVEN UP!! eh.....

candanians certainly would improve the t+c's lack of respect for their environment.

i haven't ever seen piles of trash by the side of the road as i saw on provo. just outside of several resorts.

the gov't removed many of the anchor sites, the locals can fish any shallow reef using the few bouys that are there. the dive ops were dropping anchor in the eel gardens or wherever they wanted.

the "white house reef" in three years went from the perfect shore snorkel site to a crapped out flattened from lack of protection

it's a place where the haitian boat people looked down at as the underclass by locals
with many of the t+c folks living in tar paper shacks without running water (?sanitation) - sad.

compare it to bermuda or grand cayman- the brits can run a clean show!

They have my vote. A dear friend and I are planning a trip there... it would be fantastic to call it Canadian!

Other than sand and surf what would Canada gain other than 25,000 new Canadians?

I guess it would be a great place to retire except that if it happens property values would go crazy there...

Hey wait a minute seems to me I just figured out who would benefit...the investors from Canada who likely own all the decent land down there.

Kind of makes you wonder what/who is driving this???

On one visit to Grand Turk, I spent several days diving with an older American and a home owner on the island. Nice enough guy, but he repeated the same theme over and over: Grand Turk needs nonstops from the major eastern airports. When asked why he felt so strongly about it, he responded "Property values would go way up."

Twister:
I think we could trade Quebec for Puerto Rico EVEN UP!! eh.....
Why trade? Why not let our Canadian neighbors have Puerto Rico, free of charge? As a "Thank You" for being so...nice. Or whatever.

As far as Quebec goes, the US and Canada fought that fight in 1775 and I don't want to revisit it. Kind of like the Toledo War that Michigan and Ohio fought long ago - and that Ohio lost, fair and square. :54:
