Tom Winters:
So did Carnival start using GT for port calls yet?

Not yet, but if the construction stays on schedule next year seems likely. :frown:

The islanders are really upset that the cruise ships are coming at all. I mean GT is a small island and doesn't have the infrastructure to support the throngs of cruise goers. The local businesses won't even benefit from the additional tourists anyways. The plan seems to build the dock and an independent shopping center at the south end of the island and trap most of the people who get off the boat there. Luckily the once a year cruise divers will be trapped on the south end too. The further north you go on the wall, the healthier the wall and more prolific the life.

The biggest complaint I heard was that there were no public bathrooms to accommodate all of the touristas that were going to be dumped on the island.

The first regular port calls start end of February. There are a few specialty lines coming in earlier, but they're the same ones who have been calling there for a bit now.

The people of the Turks and Caicos will regret the arrival of these cruise ships. They will do little for the local economy and will most likely increase the crime rate with the illegal Haitians. Worst of all the beautiful reefs will suffer the most from the excessive amount of weekend divers hitting the walls.
