Sorry, I'm in a rush to get this answered, Im sure it has been talked about many times.

We are currenlty in Bali (Kuta-Legian area uggh). Need to get of this local for around two nights before flying to Flores (labuanbajo)

Who can recommends a place to stay and dive in the Tulamben/Amed area, does not have to be near the Tulumben wreck either. I don't need the "Taj Majal" so middle range (or a bit below) can do. Any thoughts would be great as I need to get out of Kuta/Legian to keep my sanity intact!

Scuba Seraya was wonderful...

they will send a driver for you too

just for convenience i would choose "tauch terminal" in the middle of the scene and dive sites very close.

for longer stay scuba seraya is also good but way out of town

I'm booked at the Mimpi Tulamben on my upcoming trip. It's supposed to be a decent place for a mid-range price. Since I haven't stayed there yet, tho, I can't tell you how good it is.

I'm dying to know why you are so miserable in Kuta/Legian! I'm heading to Bali for 3 weeks on Sept. 6, and we're staying in Tuban for the first week. Are we going to be miserable??

Lee,
Mimpi Tulamben is the high end resort in tulamben. You will definitely like it.
As for your first week in Tuban, it will be fun depending on what kind of accomodation you are looking for. There is a cheap US$8 - US$25 for a room near Tuban/Kuta area.

Our dive club is in Bali, if you want to check out some diving information from a non-profit organization point of view, then click www.kapalselam.org

Acuan,

Thanks for the web link -- that looks like a great resource! Where were you when I was booking my trip? ;)

We're booked into the Santika Beach Hotel in Tuban for the first week. The place looks great, I'm just a bit concerned with the area, and if we'll be uncomfortable in such a touristy zone. I guess if we don't like it, we'll just make a point to get out and tour around to other places while we're staying there. I'm diving three out of the six days we're there anyway.

Hi Lee,
There aren't lots of thing to do in Kuta/Tuban for a week, unless you like to browse to local traditional market, walk the kuta beach, hangout and do clubs at night..
But if you ever get bored there, just get a charter car and driver or cab (and some friends) and go to Uluwatu, Dreamland, GWK, tanahlot, Ubud, or padangbai..

or if you are not into traveling by car, u can always go to the nearest spa :)

Cheers,
Acuan.
