If I recall correctly, there is a small secluded hotel down South by the International Pier - tucked between Casa Del Mar on the North and Park Royal on the South, across the street from Ernesto's, kind of tucked back behind where the OLD Ernesto's was when it was across from its current location. Anyone know the name of that place?

Village Tan Kah is the place, right where you think it is. I don't think they have TVs in the rooms. They do a continental breakfast every morning. They have a nice little pool. Diving with them is extremely convenient as Scuba Shack is right across the street, they have a nice equipment locker room and their dock is low so it's very easy to get on and off their boats. You can put your feet on the ground out of bed and practically walk straight on to the boat. Haven't stayed there, but went diving with them for a week and I often get shore tanks from them when I stay at Casa del Mar. Very nice, accommodating people.

I dove with them as well, enjoyed it. My ONLY complaint was the DM's rotated in slow season so I would get a bad DM every other day. Good location, good fast small boats, Roberta is awesomesauce. Just didn't enjoy all the DM's but she could have gotten rid of the guy as it has been a few years and I think he was on his way out lol!

Thanks, that is exactly the place I was thinking of. Planning another Dive Trip in early December, and wanted to look into it as an alternative to Casa Del Mar. Won't be diving with them. This group always uses Dive with Martin, which I like - not top of my list, since I can't get Steel 120 tanks, and Nitrox only available in AL80s, but I like the location and Miguel Estrella is a really good DM.

One issue you would have staying there would be getting to the DWM boat......I doubt they would pick you up at VTH/SS since they no longer have a pier and they way they get a boat in is pure crazy.....not sure if you could walk to and use the Casa Del Mar pier?

You could stay at Blue Angel - its pretty quaint and much better pier set up.

Lastly if you stayed at VTH - you MIGHT be able to get a wrist band for the week to use the Aquaworld pier (I do it but I stay at the Park Royal).

Just wanted to make you aware that Scuba Shack does not have a pier.....its like a ledge/remains of their old pier base lol.....its nuts. The big catamarans come in there to load up in the ams so it is crazy tight. I don't think any other op could make it in unless they were used to docking there.

The group I would be diving with is all staying at Casa Del Mar, so I doubt that there would be a problem joining them and getting on and off at the Casa Del Mar Pier. The reason I am looking into alternatives is that CDM does not have mini fridges in the rooms, and as a diabetic who is now on insulin, that's a real inconvenience for me. I can live without TV and telephone, but I definitely need WiFi access and my insulin, and it's a pain going to the CDM Lobby to get it out of the fridge in the Storage closet three times a day. Has anybody stayed at Village Tan Kah? Any comments, complaints?

I spent a week there last month. Very basic but very clean. Refrigerator in the room. Good hot water. Drinking water jug in room. Plumbing does not take TP. AC worked well.

Only problem I see is you get a big break in their package price that you may not get diving elsewhere. I was somewhat surprised at the number of divers who were staying elsewhere but diving with Scuba Shack. Both the hotel and the dive op were quite good. Only downside is having to go to town for good restaurants.

I did not use it but I was traveling with Halocline and he used it daily. I think he had a little trouble at first from the room but the office did something and no problems after that.
