trying to decide on a boat for Aug

me and hubby are planning to drive out (yes, 12 hour drive each way) to Calif for 2 days of diving and here is what we are thinking - we have only done Anacapa(x3), oil rig Grace, and Santa Cruz on day boats so we would like to do southern islands, maybe a 2-day trip. We love the kelp and critters. I do video, he does still - so we wanna see all the cool stuff, not hunt.

Aug 10-11th on Sanddollar ($365pp) or Aug11-12th on Great Escape ($275pp) seem to fit the bill. What do you think? Sanddollar costs more but includes the tanks and weights so we wouldn't have to worry about bringing them or renting when we get there. Any opinions?

Well im going to vote for the Great Escape. I was on there a few weeks back with 40 people, and it felt like 20, thats how big it is. The food is awesome. Chef Rob does a fantastic job whipping up tasty treats to keep everyone well fed. I do know he was planning some new dishes for that particular trip.

All in all its a very big comfortable boat. You will not be disappointed.

If I had a choice between any Boat and the Great Escape, 99% of the time I am going GE. One of the two or three best captains, IMO

Sounds like the Great Escape then.....where is the closest place (and easiest for us to find) to the boat to pick up tanks and weights for the weekend?

I would go to the GE website www.diveboat.com and get Capt Tims number off there. Give him a call and explain what your looking for, and he would be able to tell you what to do. Im sure he knows of a couple of places to pick up tanks.

Hubby needs to clear his calendar for a 4-day out of town trip though and that might be our only hitch. But he is trying!!

Looks like we are a go for the Great Escape trip Aug 11-12th. Only hitch is that their Paypal isn't working right for that date. I called and they told me its the only way to pay, others are having problem too. No word back yet what to do. Anyone else having this problem?
