Help! I have a freind that took a quick scuba class so he could do some diving on his florida vacation. He liked so well that he went searching on the internet for gear. Which is fine been there done that, but he is looking at buying something I never heard of "ScubaL" does this sound familiar to anyone. I am trying to convince him to rent on vacation and take the time to talk more with exsperienced divers. I just would like feedback on this gear to pass along to him.

They are the former Triple L. I bought the Taurus BCD for my niece and it has held up well over the past 16 months

There are a lot of "no name" SCUBA brands out there on the internet. I'm not familar with this one, just checked out their web site, and I do have to say you can't beat the prices. However without seeing what the stiching is like on the seams or what kind of plastic is used for the buckles etc, I wouldn't throw my money away on it.

so.. I went to check them out on the web and like Scubapolly I was also suprised on the prices. I still say rent and do more research. I was a little ?able on the denier quality.

TripleL/ScubaL has been discussed here many times and people seem generally pleased with the gear especially for the price. I do think it's good to take a little more time figuring out which gear to buy - gear shopping is fun anyway :D - and not buy strictly on price. There's also other good values out there, might spend a little more but also wind up with more suitable gear that he'll be happy with for longer. I also think BCs and especially wetsuits are things it is really better to see in person and try on for fit.

Here's one thread to look at for starters. - http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=129899

I would rent but I would do it from my LDS because you know them and can ask them about the service of the gear and maybe even use it before you go. Please save up and buy good gear. Also, when you buy gear think about service. If you buy from your LDS they can service your gear. Good Luck.... CLay

Thanks for the thread connect it was interesting I am going to look into this more. Hey just to let everyone know it was 64 degrees today michigan. I can smell diving in the air.(nitrox)

I don't know what gear your friend is looking at from them, but they make very durable quality products. The stitching is quite sound. Their wetsuits are very basic, but decent (I have bought nearly 10 of them for various friends etc) and while I have not purchased a BC from them, I have seen several and they appear very sound in construction. A couple of my favorite "deals" from them are on SMB's ($11) which are a heavy nylon style, not the thin plastic you usually get for that price, and their double band kit, which when you cut off the webbing make great single tank bands ($12 for 2)

Aloha, Tim
