I used a donut-shaped travel wing for the past 11 years. It was easy to vent (and I do that a lot as a videographer). More recently I've had to change to a horseshoe wing. It doesn't vent well at all when I'm videotaping, but is OK if I'm just doing a dive with little planting to film.

I've never liked horseshoe shaped wings for this reason. I will be mounting one of my other travel wings soon to dive for another decade. The horsehoe wing I have on my harness now will be reserved for doubles.

Dr. Bill,

If the horseshoe wing you have now is appropriate for doubles *NO DOUBT* it's a struggle to use with single tanks. It's *NO DOUBT* far larger than necessary for singles, and has a wide center panel.

Capacity and overall wing shape are vastly more important than the presence or absence of a connecting arc at the base of the wing that is located *UNDER* the cylinders.

Narrow profile, narrow center panel horseshoe style singles wings Vent the same as Narrow profile, narrow center panel donuts.

Right.... ok not almost vertical, but you still have to lean back i.e not horizontal.

If you can't vent from the inflator hose when horizontal, or at the most a few degrees head up, you're either doing something wrong, using a wing for the wrong application, or the wing is poorly designed.

I stick my ass up a bit and pull on the bottom dump valve. All air goes out if I were to hold onto the string for a bit. No need to go "vertical".
