Today was a great day!

We got a late start this morning (big surprise) due to work crud. After a hearty bowl of cereal and some Starbucks, we were on our way. Good music, good convo, and keeping Phil on the road made for a lot of fun on the way there. I gotta say, I've never been diving in weather this cold. The ride there felt like waiting in line for a huge roller coaster. Excited butterflies, a little scared, and super pumped! For the record, Randy speeds. I have the photo that he sent me to prove it. After a last stop for a warm hat and shades since I forgot mine, we discovered that Randy was right behind us by 5 min. It was just one of those days were everything fell into place.

So, after signing in, playing with the cats, and putting our protective gear on in the bathroom... we were ready to head over to the docks. Randy brought his propane hot shower. As a teaser he set it up then informed me at the last minute there would be no hot water before the dive. I will get even someday. What a cruel world.

I have to add this: I rented a "good" 7 mil with a 7 mil hooded vest. Wow! I knew my 7mil was not good but, I had no idea I could be so much warmer.

In the descent, we had small issues and a little discombobulation but, we handled it all in stride. I buddied with Randy and Phil with Tom. The small issues included Tom dropping his weights, Randy's inflator hose was leaking, and I was over weighted. Neither Phil or I realized the weights we found in the sand were Tom's. It made for some good 3 stooges type communication. We all made it thru just fine and were on our way.

Water Temp 42 Air 36 Time 35 min

We all fed the fish and they were still aggressive but, not as many as in the summer. I realized how aggressive they are when I was bit in the finger. We split up and I popped a squat on the tail gate of the truck to feed the fish some more. We met up at the airplane and took turns going thru where I got a fantastic pic of Phil outside one of the portholes. At the very end of the dive, we FINIALLY found a catfish! This was the moment I have been waiting for. Got a few ok pics and some sweet video I will try and upload on myspace tomorrow.

After the dive was not as bad as I expected. Between Randy's propane hot shower, Phils thermos of hot water, and Gilboa's shower...it didn't take long to warm up. Randy got me in his car as quick as possible to go to Gilboas shower. Even though I was shivering uncontrollably and shaking pretty bad, I have to say, I felt awesome!! It just feels so good to dive and to have a new experience with it. I even tried self-heating hot chocolate for the first time. yum!

Of course, after we packed up we headed to Waffle House. All I gotta say is
smothered, covered, chunked, and diced! It was like we had all known each other for years. Phil was my 1st cold water dive buddy, Tom & I met last summer, and you all know Randy. Amazing day! Thanx Guys!!
