Well. The weekend was off to a rough start on Friday night, I was being pro-active, and checking the boat, and found our Gen set had a bad liner, and was out of service, and will need a overhaul. this ontop of the fact that out compressor runs off our genn set ment that we had no air fills... The Capt had a portable in his storage area, but would not be able to get it till the morning...
so the next morning comes . we all run around like idiots. and got underway just before 10 AM. and i began the long process of filling tanks with a 4 cfm compressor..
(i dive double 130's wow that took alot)
We had a light boat so we steamed to the Blackpoint bow.. I splashed and went doen and tied in on the nport side just aft of the bow at about 95FSW.
Conditions where nice on the surface. 1 foot or less seas, nice and sunny, and the air was cool. making it a comfortable day.
Sub sufrace conditions where good as well, espically considering the bad weather we had all week. Viz was 15+, and little to no vurrent. For those not fimilar with the wreck. it was a collier sunk by the U-853 She was torpeoded just aft of the house, and broke in 2 the stern section sits about 1/4 mile from the rest of the ship (bow section) and the bow sits turtled in 110 FSW.
the shallowest part of the wreck is about 70 ish FSW with a max depth of 110'
along the hull there are many missing plates and provides pennitration for those with training, and plenty of places to peek in for those who are not.
Anyway. so i tie us in float the cup, and do a quick dive with a bottom time of about 15 minn. return to the boat just as the other divers are gearing up...
Most everyone else splashes, and i do a surface interval..
after my SI i teamed up with my dive buddy for the dive. and in we go.. conditions where the same as before.. we did a bottom time of 32 minn on air, and i did my deco as per a air dive, but switched to 50% for the 15 minn of deco i had, and made a slow acent to the boat giving me a run time of 52 minn.
The hook was pulled by the Co-capt and back to Newport we went with what ended up being a good day of diving.

Sunday we where a little more orginized. We had about a dozen passangers and about 9 am we cast off our lined and headed to the U boat.
Surface conditions where the same as saturday, but the air was a bit warmer. (nice and comfortable)
We arived at the u-boat, and there was another boat there.. Caned Air from Pt. Judith. (we gave them a liittle wake by accident as we pulled up. and felt bad about it. . espically because they where polite, and made sure to let us know there was space on there Starboard side we could tie in...... )
shorthy after our arrival they finished up tehr dives, and steamed off, giving us the wreck to ourselves....
We sent a diver down to set out line, and began putting divers in the water.
I fiolled tanks and blended deco gas for crew that had used it the day before.
after all that and a quick nap. i splashed.
Conditions where about 15 feet of viz, little current, and a bottom temp of about 55 deg.
after a 30 minn dive and a minor deco, i returned to the boat... everyone finished there dived, and back to Newport we went.....
I snuck up to the bow, and again grabed a nap...
Again. another nice day of diving....
we had great guests on the boat, and look forward to seeing them in the future.
I took some digi cam pics of the goins on on the boat. people gearin up and gettin in and outa thewater. ill host em and get them up later..

I was on the boat this past Sunday...in fact my NEW avatar pic is from the trip...everyone who was there will know what it is all about...

This was by far one of the better dives I've had in a long time. The guys on the boat were great. My buddy (dbg40) and I hadn't dove the 853 before, and the crew was very thorough in their description and advice. The boat is great, I was even able to get a couple cat naps in! I am looking forward to diving with this crew again...hopefully sooner rather than later!!! Big thanks to Capt. Mike, Ray, Sam and everyone on board!

mstudley:
Were you guys supposed to go to the uboat that day?
Yes, but plans changed

JimJam:
You wet suit divers just wouldn't understand!!!

No more excuses for thmubing the dive from you.. :thumb: .... A giant tanker truck on your back, and a valve in your suit... Guess I wont follow you anymore.. Gives new meaning to swimming next to your buddy..
