Oh, you two! Hey, it doesn't bother me personally, but we all know that by no means are they the darling of the forum - hardly a thread goes by that Aldora is mentioned without some hatin' going on - or the insinuation that those who use their services are not enlightened enough to know better.

I think you may be reading things into our posts (mine, anyway) that aren't there. I have no axe to grind when it comes to Aldora; I just can't afford them. I drive an old Buick, but I have nothing against the BMW's that pass me on the freeway. ;^)

FWIW, most of the folks that I know who dive with them have been diving Cozumel long enough to know what they like. I don't believe that they dive Aldora because they don't know any better; they have done their cost/benefit analysis and made their decision accordingly, as have I.

As I know that you are a regular at Caribe Blu - I hope you didn't take my using them as an example as pointing you out, specifically. I wasn't. It was just the first numbers that popped into my head - and I have been checking a lot of numbers! I checked into the Caribe, specifically because of you. I know that you estoll their virtues, so I checked into the possibility of staying there. Had it been just me and my wife, that very likely would have been my choice. She is a sun-worshipper - the beach is a must! We even walked down there our last trip and checked the place out. If it were just myself, and diving were to be the only activity, I would probably stay at Caribe Blu, or Casa Mexicana. Hey, I don't know what happened or how long ago Aldora did something to someone, or whatever. They work for me, and I find them to be a most gracious host. I can't say enough about anybody that I have come in contact with who represents them.

As for the Beemer comment - you won't find too much more of a budget conscious traveler than I. My posts here at Scubaboard when I first began are loaded with how to do it cheaper questions. You won't see me dining at Prima's or Guido's. My sons and I will probably do three days of two tank dives (almost covered by the savings from the Villa). Rest of the days shore diving and snorkeling from sun-up to sunset. Hope to do a half day of fishing. Coming in via Cancun, then bus, then ferry. I will get all 5 of us there and back for less than $1500. Hope to do the whole trip for about $4000. And don't try to get me to feel sorry for you, Mr.-I- Drive-A-Buick-Man, I see how long you stay in Cozumel! ;)

I do most of my Cozumel trips with flights to Cancun (cheaper and more convenient). You know you can get a private van for 5 people CUN-PDC for $120 total roundtrip with DITA (www.getdita.com). It's about $40 more then the bus but it's waiting for you when you exit the airport and you're on your way. And waiting for you at the top of the hill in Playa to get you back to the airport. Not too bad a price for the convenience.

Are you sure you are reading the Cozumel Forum section on Scubaboard?? I read lots of great comments on Aldora, some feel they are a bit pricey but I cannot remember a negative comment about their operation or the Villa. Sounds like you made the perfect choice for your Cozumel vacation. Have a great time and post a trip report when you get back.

Yes, thank you. You gave me this info in a thread I started a couple of weeks ago about bus vs. private shuttle. I appreciate it greatly. I haven't decided which way I'm going, yet. I'm thinking it would be very nice to have your own vehicle all to yourself. But, hey, $40 is $40!!! Since we leave in 2 weeks, I should probably make my mind up soon.

'just a quick thought on DITA. My wife and I used them in Jan to take us from Cancun to the Riveria Maya. On the trip from the airport, we were stylin' with a dark green conversion van, leather seats, etc....sweet, it was sub-contraced out since all the DITA vans were taken. On the way back to the airport it was a a plain white van with an overly tired driver (he kept nodding off, so my wife and I kept starting conversation to keep him awake). That trip was kind of hairy, we were rear ended during one of the slow downs for the speed bumps, neither vehicle even stopped... Just be ready for an adventure, that's my only caution.
