me, mons, larry, chip, ish, iris, matthew and eric all met up in a very crowded aquav for some diving in anilao. the weather was perfect and the water looked so inviting. so we all get ready and prep our gear before doing the first leg of dives.
Dive1: Bahura
Dive one was already proving to be a strain, after ignoring the equipment checklist started by larry i discover half way into the dive that i forget my fins and had to go back to the resort and retrieve em. after that we did the usual dive briefing and planning conducted by chip about what to expect in bahura. as we donned our equipment i was already feeling a bit strange. i dont know whether it was becasue of the twin setup with 2 deco bottles or the fact that i totally lacked sleep. as we did our backroll entry one of the bolt snaps of my deco bottles snap and i immediately have to unclip one of em and proceed with just one. as two of our groups meet and form uw we decide to follow the contour of the reef and enjoy a slight drift provided by the currents. All of a sudden the group is swept by a downcurrent, nothing unnerving but very noticeable. then i notice larry has dissapeared. then monique swam passed to me and showed me her computer. it apparently was malfunctioning. i wasnt worried at all since i had my computer and some tables in my head. she was worried though and accdg to her was paranoid for the rest of the dive. chip on the other hand was signalling to everyone low on air? IMPOSSIBLE after only 10 mins dive time. i then resume control of the group and try to get organized. larry is gone chip is going loco
and the dive plan is turning into an utter failure. we then see another dive group ascending for shallower water, two male divers escorting a very panicked looking female diver. dint exactly help when chip was harassing em with doing the narcd signal to em over and over and over i think eric aborted then chip and iris soon follow. mons now is getting worried about her profile and aborts i then follow suit. that leaves matthew and ish dissappearing into the blue. as we are doing our safety stops i see the pink hammerhead freediving and greeting us personally. at the surface i then find out that that larry aborted early because he flooded his very expensive camera, chip was horribly narced and was very paranoid throughout the dive, moniques computer was screaming OLI becasue she forgot to set her mix 1. all in all dive one was bunk just one of those dives where nothing added up
Dive 2: Sombrero
This time we really took the time and did a proper dive briefing during our SI'S. we were joined by aparachiki and friend. we started the dive at the shallow part of sombrero island. playing around the 20 foot range for about 15 mins. very slow leisurely pace so the rest of the group could enjoy the coral formations and generic reef fish spiraling accross the shallows. after about 15 mins we started descending along the deeper part of the reef. we caught up with another group of divers, fearing that we would have a chaotic traffic jam, i led our groups into deeper part of the wall in order to bypass the group. me and mons decided to pick up the pace will the rest of the group enjoyed the uw scenery that beheld all of us. lots of angel surgeon fish, titan triggers and as chip put it ,"generic reef fish" colored blue /orange and green. after 40ish mins we started our ascent and ended up in the shallow reef which usually signals the opposite end of the island. we decided just to go around and swim until one of us would signal low on air. at 60 mins chip and mons deployed their smbs and started having fun. Very nice slow relaxed dive.
