You spent $2600 and they charged you 15% on the $200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My shop offers 10% discount for cash and only 4% if using charge card! I bring cash and the first stop is the dive shop...

In the end, you had a great time...can't beat that!@flyboy08 Yea - that's a bit of a slap in the face. Overall costs for diving ($80/two tank dive) was good, so I guess it all works out. We tipped the DM and boat captains pretty well, as they are the ones who really make the difference in a good trip vs. bad trip. The front office..... not so much.
Yeah, this person is clearly confusing "Decline the transaction" with "Decline the conversion".Decline the transaction or decline the conversion?

Oh. Maybe I misread that. What does "decline the conversion" mean, then?

Yes, I also don't like carrying a lot of cash. I just won't book with a dive op that won't take cards at a reasonable rates -- there are plenty of good dive ops who will (we've used Tres Pelicanos and Jungle Divers).By the way, how does everyone handle dive shops that want cash in USD for diving? I'm not a fan of carrying $2500 in cash around for diving PLUS the other cash for restaurants/tips/etc.
Neither do I but I have always had good luck with the Banorte ATM in the City Hall building across Melgar from El Cantil. I always use the same ATM and I keep all my receipts. Occasionally it cannot print one (out of paper?), so I take a picture of the transaction with my phone. I bring enough US cash to pay my hotel room bill with a little extra to get me started, and then I pay for everything else including my dive bill with pesos from the ATM. To each his own but this works for me.Yes, I also don't like carrying a lot of cash.
