Hi,

I'm thinking about learning trimix skills. What agency should I go with and why?

who did you use for Adv. nitrox and deco?

Its more about the instructor than agency

also to learn trimix "skills" just contiue to practice your deco skills, as in bottle handling and bouancy and such, there is no special stand on your head and wave the magic wand skill do diving a second inert gas :-)

In this case, more so than anything else: get thyself to a GOOD instructor.

In this day and age where people are becoming trimix instructors after only 2-3 years of diving trimix, you want someone who has done a lot of dives deeper than what you want/plan to do. In tech diving, experience is everything.... far more so than in recreational diving. An instructor who has done a lot of mix dives will know a lot more than what the theory books say - and that is invaluable stuff.

Also, you want a strict instructor who demands that you meet the standards, not a more fuzzy one who will make things easier for you. He doesnt have to be a drill sergeant - but he has to be committed enough to not dodge standards just to hand out a C-card.

IANTD is a good agency, FWIW (and I am TDI, so it isnt really bias).

Well, you know where I'm going to come from. There's one agency that insists that if somebody is going to teach you something, he has got to be doing regular dives more complex and challenging than what he's teaching YOU. There's one agency with exhaustive and meticulous criteria for their instructors. There's one agency that really teaches their instructors to TEACH.

Pay your money, and take your choice . . . but I'd rather take a course (from an instructor associated with whatever agency) from somebody who walks the walk. There's one place you can be assured of that.

I agree with the above that you should look for an instructor that has recent experienced beyond the level you are seeking training for. I would ask a potential instuctor to present his log book to you. If he refuses move on.
