Trimix... how to certify

Yeah regardless your going to need a BP&W, drysuit (probably), hid light, doubles (probably again) and all that fun stuff. If you want to go the RecTriox or GUE tech 1 which is normoxic trimix then you need fundies also. Just in case you didn't know this already.

Gear wise, this is a good place to start. You'll need more regs- 2 for doubles and one for each deco bottle. argon will add another reg. Bottom timers or equivalent. I would recommend an oxygen analyzer. And if you have any money left over, buy the biggest, most fuel efficient dive vehicle you can get your hands on.

well, you'll need double tanks and you'll need several stage and deco bottles (at
least one of each). you'll have to rig the deco and stage bottles so you can clip
them to your harness.

each bottle takes a regulator, of course, and you need two for your doubles (so that's a minimum of four regs). each bottle takes an SPG, so that's at least two.

to dive the doubles, you'll need a backplate and a doubles wing

you don't want to haul all this weight around with a wetsuit, so for safety,
you should get a dry suit (for redundant lift in case your wing fails).

i would also get a Trimix compatible computer, to use as a back up in case
the planned dive goes to hades. a second, back-up bottom gauge/timer is
nice.

you'll also need a lift bag.

what if you can't make it back to the line to do your deco?

say you get lost or disoriented?

also, you'll need to carry the bottles with you to the line to drop them off,
and then carry them back up to the boat on the way back

I've read a few articles about bottles being staged on lines, I'm not sure that's where you got the idea, but there were a few common factors in all the instances that I've seen. Like Andy said, if you can't make it back to a line to ascend, you're suddenly without your deco gas, and possibly breathing a hypoxic mix once you break a certain depth. Even if your dive's planned to stay near the line, currents could drag you away, visibility could drop and you lose the line, etc...Too many chances to risk it IMO.

In everything I've read that has *any* mention about staging bottles on a line are setting depth records or making some abnormally deep dive for some other senseless reason, where they never lose physical contact with the line for any reason.
