james croft:
I will be going back to area to dive on Aug.22-27. Will be doing the Huron if anyone wants to buddy up.
I will be in kitty hawk that week with family... was debating taking dive gear along.. Where can I get Tanks and weights? I do not have a wetsuit yet and sometimes it is a challange finding one fitting me. I am a new diver is this a bad idea for my first ocean dive?

Thanks

OBX Dive center will hire tanks for $10/tank, I'm sure they rent suits as well. Not sure if they hire weights. BUT if you give us an idea, we may have enough spare weight between those of us going to help you out.

This will be a challenging dive, mostly because it is a long surface swim that can be very tiring. It was also my first ocean dive. Max depth will be 20 feet to the sand. So far we have 6 confirmed divers, and I'm guessing at least 400 dives between us, providing you are confident in your abilities and tell us (meaning your strengths and weaknesses) you should be fine.

I have a fundamental question. How many tanks should I bring?

Since many are renting anyway, bringing just one and getting it refilled at OBX sounds like a fairly good plan.

Skip Chappell and I are bringing 2 each. By the way, I looked at the water temps this morning and they are 10 degrees warmer than earlier in the week. Amazing. So the water temps at 10 ft are right now just over 76F. I'll get a 3mm wet suit and bring my 7mm as well.

Don Burke:
Two it is.

Don, bring one if you would like and get it filled between dives. It's not like we are in a hurry to catch a boat.

I'm bringing two, but hoping I can get away with not breathing and using one.

Don, you have a 10000 cu ft HP don't you? You might be OK with just the one!

I am so looking forward to this trip!

I know I'll need two unless I get one filled, so I just decided to bring two.
