Not getting into the debate that has christened this site, but I can say that with a few PM's and a Google search, here's what I came up with:

truth squad: You are from Chicago yet you have issues with a group in Travers City, MI? What’s up with that? You are also a shipwreck hunter and you're dive profile hints that you are Harry Zych from a Google search on the lady Elgin. If this group wants to sink a boat - so be it, let them. Why do you care? I do see an issue you may have if they become an underwater preserve, which means your ability to salvage shipwrecks will be extremely limited, so I am told and it would make sense. I'm not much of a shipwreck hunter and certainly not a salver so I can't appreciate your career choice. I also see many lawsuits involving you and ownership over newly discovered shipwrecks.

Calvillo: only posts I see are against this Travers Michigan group. (except one in the northeast). Not sure what your issue is as there’s no background on you. Other then you two – there’s hardly anybody against this group you abhor.

Common sense would rule that the grip you have runs much deeper than whatever real issues you have and are badgering this person repeatedly. In a search of all the posts (86 at last count) McMaster has, none were attacking. So this fight you have is clearly one sided with no grounds backing your behavior. I suggest you get a life.

Gosh, Truth Squad is not attacking anyone that I can find anywhere. He has just made some truthful observations. On his identity, most of us here use names reflecting our interests. None of us try, as far as I know, to personalize the discussion. Mr. MacMaster, who I think is a weatherman in Travrse City is an exception.

Among several other posts, you must have missed this one on this thread from October 15:

"Well folks, don't believe everthing you read because there were clarifications a week before the article went to press and none of that made it in. It would have taken out the "meat" of his article. Also, the local group isn't pushing to sink this vessel. If they had their choice of one vessel to sink, it would be much bigger - however, they do offer up a list of volunteers to assist the county in the intentional sinking as a state project (not local as in non-profit). It's a pilot project in terms of a scientific platform for research. So there are many parts to this article that aren't true. Facts are on paper which will be distributed at the next council meeting to verify what was said earlier and not written into the first article."

There was an even stronger attack on this article and reporter ("his article") last Friday but it was "edited" a few hours after posting.

I do not have a copy of the Friday posting but would like a copy of it if anyone has one. If I get it, I'll post it or send it to you so you can read it since you must have missed it. It may be that the Traverse City Record-Eagle has a copy of it. They may be looking into it.

Sorry for your misunderstanding.

I'm from GR and have In-Laws in TC. I should get some of your names so I can have a dive buddy up there. :)

deepH2Odiver,

Your profile indicates you are very new to this board, just joining a couple days ago. Welcome to the board. I might suggest there is much more involved here than what you are aware of and Mr. McMaster has suceeded in ailenating many more Michigan divers and organizations than you are aware of. You have taken a pretty strong stand for someone so new to the board and quite possibly the various issues involved. I know many divers and several organizations not on favor of sinking a ship in Grand Traverse Bay due primarily to the way Mr. McMasters has bulldozed his way through the process.
Hopefully your future posts will be a little more friendly.

so... are they going to sink this thing or not??

Good question -- seems to me that it's anybody's guess at this point. The DNR/DEQ has some issues, county has questions, who knows how this will play out. One thing is for sure -- it will be interesting to see how it does end up!

deepH2Odiver -

Someone sent me the post from last Friday. You should probably read it to see how Mr. MacMaster has treated people questioning or even publishing facts about this ship sinking project. It may change your approach to this:

Now, people are telling me that the reporter doesn't like the republican legislators and will use any means to attack them. One person told me that the reporter works behind the scenes once in awhile with Congressman Stupak [who is a democrat]. (alot of this is hearsay) But I did do some research and checked out his stories that are archived and they are slanted and nothing negative has been written on democrats that I could find. - I'm amazed that this is happening. I had no idea this type of attitude still exists and they're gainfully employed! It's sad when unfair, unbalanced and unethical reporting stiffles the growth of a well intended organizations plan to promote science, educaion and preservation. The lesson learned : Someone will always have an agenda to serve their own personal interest and take anyone down in the process. He wasn't even at the commissioners meeting, he takes notes from the broadcast when they play on channel 2. It seems he has burned so many people he can't show his face. (again, hearsay)

And what's laughable about all this: I saw the reporters picture on someones wall and that if he approaches anyone at the office, to ignore him! The things I'm finding out now, after the fact, are unreal. And yet, those who are not happy with our success in growth use this article to bash us. *sigh*....

Plus the newspapers average reader age is 45-65 as the younger folks are looking to the internet and other types of media for their news. So the newspaper is slowly becoming a dying breed and maybe they're trying to justify their existence by attacking other media types. (Again, hearsay from different types of research groups) Who knows.

I know I'll never trust his articles and it certainly degrades the respect & integrity of the organization he writes for. Which is a shame as they have some very good, sincere journalists who write excellent stories.

In light of this articles impact on the overall strategic plan, the GTBUPC has now created guidlines to protect against poor journalism in open meetings and have seperated thier meeting into "open for the public" and "Closed/private".

I've been viewing the board for a few years and friends usually input as we often feel the same on many topics however this particular forum and resurfacing of names caught my attention. But right now, I'm late for the airport. DEMA is calling my name. I'll return Monday with some comments and suggestions. TTFN!

At a meeting of the Grand Traverse Board of Commisioners last night (October 31), the Board voted to rescind a prior decision to take title to the M/V Togue as a first step towards sinking it. The Commissioners referred the entire project to the County Parks and Recreation Committee because there are too many unresolved questions about it. It will not be brought back up until all the details are considered, resolved and written into actual contracts. It is highly unlikely the matter will come up again anytime in the near future.
