transpac vs transplate help in choosing

There are a lot of options out there for SS BP, Harness and Wings.

I have the TransPac and the TransPlate. I am a recreational diver with one tank.

The TransPlate is just a harness. I have the DR SS BP with slots for tank cam straps, but I use the DR STA.

The TransPlate is very versatile and should fill all of your needs.

I would research more on harnesses, BP's and Wings to determine if the TransPlate w. DR Wing is for you or is there a better Harness/Wing set-up for a Tech Diver.

There are other sites/forums which have more info on Tech Diver equipment so as to make a more informed decision.

I have gotten a chance to use a transpac and i was able to use only 28lbs in it with my drysuit. my instructor who is all about dive rite said i should get both pac for singles plate for doubles. I am trying to only get one if i can but will get both if that is the best rout. I am going to try ss backplate this weekend. I keep hearing that a pac even with the stiffners does not work well with doubles compared to a ss plate. What do you think should i still go with ss plate?

Hi Alex,

How did the SS plate dive go this past weekend? I stand by my recommendation for your single tank rig...Transplate harness, SS plate and Venture wing for single tank diving. The harness and plate will transition nicely to doubles.

When you decide to go tech, the typical configuration would be steel plate with aluminum doubles (twin alum 80s for example) or alum plate with steel doubles. That's not a hard and fast rule, but with steel tanks one typically doesn't need the added weight of a 5lb steel plate. The steel tanks weight MORE than enough.

If you are thinking about buying one harness (which is a good decision in todays economy!) and want to make sure it will work for everything that you may decide to do, get a TransPac. You'll have a little more weight in your pockets for single tank diving, but you can easily use the TransPac with steel doubles if that's what you are thinking of buying. You can also transition the TransPac into a Nomad, if sidemount diving (in open water or in overhead environments) is something that you might try.

The TransPac works fine with doubles. Most folks who opine about the stabilizer plates not being enough aren't wearing their TransPac properly. Be sure to don the TransPac like we suggest in our TransPac fitting video and use the stability plates.

thanks for your advice the dive this weekend went great def gave me a good idea about what i want to go with hopfully will have it by the end of next week going with your recomendation of the venture and ss plate
