Why would you take "adv. nitrox"? I thought the only use of O2 over 40% would be for use as a decompression gas. So if you are below a decompression ceiling you don't have access to the surface. Wouldn't you want doubles in that case? If you are using double you will want the backplate.

Just trying to figure out why someone would want to take advanced nitrox class and not want to dive doubles.

Good point... Non-PADI diving is new to me so I'm still learning the ropes :)

I dive backplate (for singles) on my 0.5mm wetsuit and I have to say it is definitely NOT uncomfortable. Started with a TransPlate for harness but has replaced it with a one piece webbing.

I just started looking at the DiveRite Transplate setup with a stainless backplate and the RecWing. I like the versatility, as I live in Clevleand, Ohio and dive in quarries and Lake Erie, but also travel quite a bit and plan on doing more cavern and cave diving in the yucatan peninsula and in Florida. I think the transplate setup will work great being able to switch between a single tank and also a double with the backplate for caves, etc.

anyone have a good source for this setup at a good price?

Thanks!
Tyler

I just spent a week diving in Cozumel with a SS plate. No wetsuit. Hog harness. Not uncomfortable at all. Actually VERY comfortable. Like I was wearing nothing.

You might also consider the Low Profile MM backplate. It has the rigidity of bacplate but is much more comfortable. No adapters needed for single tank configuration. It can be fitted with Transpac-style shoulder and waist harness, or a full Hogarthian setup.

Oxycheq has a similar design, but I don't see holes for the Can light on it, I've seen them at ebay at the same price as the MM.

MM seems like a good choice in this kind of BP, since the holes are allready drilled.

You may find it cheaper somewhere else, but it's hard to beat www.diveriteexpress.com
in customer service, super fast shipping, and price.

Has anyone got one in this size? If so, how tall are you / how big is your chest?
I dive a M/L TransPac and am probably the smallest person to fit it. 5'7", 30" waist, 38" chest. Actually took off the cumberbund part. My friend, who is probably 34" waist, 44" chest fits too.

Northeast Scuba Supply's famous name special is a good deal for the DR TransPlate set-up. Also, ScubaToys mentions a special package on their Dive Rite backplate page.

If I was going to buy a complete BP/W set-up, I would get Tobin's plate in with hogarthian harness - Deep Sea Supply single bp/w. Innovative design, Tobin's a board member, rave reviews, and good price for the kit.

I dive the Trek wing, and have dove the Rec wing. And for singles, they aren't as slick as some of the other wings on the market. They work, but requires a little more management.
