I don't know if this helps with a UK destination through Dallas or Miami but when I transit through Houston to Canada from the Caribbean or Central America my checked bag is labled with a green "in transit" sticker and I clear us immigration and customs without picking up my bag, it magically continues onto the next flight. Hopefully this works for you to and checked bagage won't be a concern.

Sorry I have nothing to do with the international terminal other than personnal travel.

OK, I finally got the answer from AA themselves. After the usual ill-informed waffle from the Call Centre, I managed to get through to the US office directly. They told me pretty much what some of you have said - passing through DFW, I have to pick-up my luggage, clear customs and hand it back. He seemed to think 2 hours was enough, but I'll play it safe and go on the next flight, thus allowing 3 hours and 10 minutes.

However, he seemed to suggest that I would be able to book my luggage from Curacao to London on the final return leg and clear only immigration and security in Miami.
