Dave,

You can check-out PDIC Intl. at PDIC-Intl.com You can also talk directly to one of the owners (Frank, Doris, or Mel Murphy) by calling (570) 342-1480. PDIC Intl's headquaters is located in Scranton Pa.

A Little History on PDIC Intl.

PDIC was origially Professional Dive Instructors College. I believe it was founded back in the '60s by ED Brauley (sp?). There were a number of PDIC Schools throughout the country. If you have access to Skin Diver Magazines from the early to mid '70s you can find PDIC advertisments. PDIC was purchased by the Murphy family in the late 70's and was transformed into the Professional Diving Instructors Corporation International (PDIC Intl.).

PDIC Intl. is one of the founding members of the RSTC and assisted in developing the current certification standards for recreational diving. PDIC's philosophy is that they don't want to train all the divers, only the best ones.

Because PDIC Intl. is a member of the RSTC and has trainng facilities throughout the world the certification is recognized world-wide.

I hope this bit of info. helps.

Only do it if it's what you really want, never do anything you feel pushed into.... it takes the pleasure away and can sometimes even be dangerous!

I have a question! Maybe one of the senior members can answer.

When there are no further comments to a posting how do you close it?

A bit off topic, but I will answer it. Very rarely do we "tank" a thread. Usually there must be a mitigating reason, like flaming or unsafe practices being promoted for us to actually stop all posts. Only regulators for a particular area can tank a thread. Other than that, most threads are left open indefinately. If you feel that a thread should be tanked or otherwise modified or moderated, please contact me or ANY of us on the "Mod Squad". We are here to help.

get enough training, or is there ever an end to training.......

One is always learning something new....it is up to us whether we apply it or not

Possibly stop, getting more certifications.
I think I going to skip this thread. Ive been up, and down, heard good replies, and some that I want sure of. It has given me heart, to see the people discuss their love for the sport. The kindness and caring for new divers, and the JOY we get when a new student "catches on". It disheartens me to see the other side, The Money, and/or the quest for more prestige. I only wish - I could cover actual costs like Insurance, Gas, gear, & air: I never have, and I expect, I never will.

My desicion is: forget Instructor - forget Assistant Instructor - The dollar is just to mighty, and that just causes more of the part, I dont like. People who want to help wind up doing it for fun. In essence we become easy marks, or free labor, for shops and Certifing Agencys. Perhaps I even need to hang up the DM shingle, it costs me at least $500 per year, and last year I got two free dinners and a free lunch.

Disgusted, yes, but the only problem is: I still love the look on a new students face -

No problem...
Just be willing to dive *as a buddy* with newbies...
Help them along by example...

Hi Netdoc

I have not a particular thread in mind I was just asking a general question as I am new to the board.

So basically most threads are left open.
