Where does everyone find it is easiest to attach a torch when night diving? And how do you attach it? Or do most people just hold them? (I like having my hands free). I own a UK SL4, and the most obvious place to put it would be on my forarm.

I carry mine in my hand, with a lanyard to my wrist - which is break-away. One jerk, and I'm free.

If you like your hands free, maybe one on your forearm, and two small ones on the mask strap?

I wear a helmet mounted light. Leaves both hands free and comes in handy you whack your head on something.

I always carry me torch in me left hand and and tether me pitchfork to me BC. :D

Try making a handle similar to a Goodman handle, or a piece of velcro strap and "strap" the light to the back of your hand. You'll still have use of your fingers and you can point the light were ever. Hey you folks that use torches instead of lights, do you have any trouble keeping the fire from going out? LOL

If you're planning on holding the UK SL4 all the time, it doesn't let you use that hand for much of anything else.

If you try to strap it to your forearm, it gets in the way of certain maneuvers, is prone to catching on things, and, when your wetsuit compresses, has a nasty habit of turning about your arm at the worst time!

Here's another option:

Something like this lets you wear the battery on your waiststrap, hold the light with a handle across your palm, which lets you use that same hand to deal with your LP inflator, adjust your mask or regulator, grab onto things, and otherwise use that hand while still holding onto your light.

Just a thought.

YMMV.

I always carry a large and heavy torch when diving the lake. It is clipped to a D-ring on my shoulder strap using a spiral lanyard. When not in use, and to keep my hands free, I hook it by its handle to the chest strap of the BC. Works for me.

Like someone else said a lanyard attached to your wrist would seem like the most logical place to put it. Its there when you need it and if you need an extra hand you can let go.
