I've only owned my own BPW for a few months and I'm still working on optimizing it. Currently I dive without an STA and I think it's basically fine, but when I attach a tank it's a struggle to get the tank straight. Still undecided on whether to get an adapter.
Do you use an STA? Why or why not? I know the general advantages and disadvantages but I want to hear about people's personal experiences and opinions.

I have used an STA for decades and like it. In going without I too have found it a chore to get the plate to sit properly on the tank. Other people swear by the strap only method so both work. If you go with the STA suggest you use split washers or other method to create tension/keep wing nuts/knobs from loosening. I also carry spare wing nuts.

My advice : if you don't alternate between single and twin tanks, add a sta to your rig. Struggle will be a thing of the past.

The added distance between the tank and your back isn't an issue? I worry about the effect on my trim.

It's just a STA, not a steel beam. Check the dimensions of that one, you'll see what I mean. Just be sure the one you choose will fit your plate (holes must align).

As far as trim is concerned, you'd better check how you set your weights on your rig, this will affect the trim.

Yes, I use an STA. Why? I find it more stable and flexible. I can easily tear down my entire kit to keep my wing protected from being pinched under the plate in transport and handling. I can easily switch wings. I can easily move between singles and doubles.

I don't use an STA nor do I bolt the wing and I don't have any problems. What kind of wing is it? Does it have any roll control tabs built in next to the cam band slots?
