Just thought I'd start a thread and poll as a result of this thread.

If all certifying agencies began issuing c cards with expiration dates and invalidated all non expiring c cards, would you recertify or not?

If you answer yes, how much would you be willing to pay for recertification?

Let's say the recert would be every year.

I wouldn't pay a cent! I'd just continue to dive as I did for years Before I was certified.

As an Instructor, I'd be willing to take your money so that you can re-certify!! :D ;)

I think if you havn't dived in a while you should re-certify or do a refresher. But there is no way to be sure. Log books can be faked.

I've seen a lot of vacation divers that are a hazard to themselves, and therefore those that are diving with them.

Me too.

Not only will I not buy more but I'd be happy to sell the ones I have back to them. LOL

Only if the fee were somehow incorporated into annual diving insurance.

I dived for almost 15 years before I got my one and only certification in 1970 by the YMCA. I have a boat and a compressor. I quit giving dive shops money many years ago.

That's an idea! :D

If you figure out a way to get them to buy them back, please let us all know! ;)

You don't really think PADI would cut You in on this do you? It would be like renewing your drivers license, you send them a new Pix, your old card and X number of dollars and PADI will ( eventually ) send you a new card. WHY do they need a lowly instructor? Although a 'CourseDirector' might be be able to BUY( more likely rent) an authorization for 'walk in' renewals.

I'm not a PADI Instructor. If PADI was the only gig around, I wouldn't be an Instructor!!

If they're going to recertify, someone has to make sure they're up to standards. Your not going to have instructors recertifying them for free!! We already do it for next to nothing!!
