I had two stretches of non diving. The first was 18 months when I was pregnant and had a baby. The second was for 8 months, and before I found ScubaBoard.
There are many things to do if you can not dive. You sound like you know its a definate period of time that you will not be diving. How about learning a language? Clean out that room/shed/box/pile that you have been meaning to do but never had the time, redecorate a room for under $100, lose weight (if this is something that pertains to you, I do not know), join a gym, take a class, find a new hobby-something that you will still be able to do once you start diving again...
Hope this helps.

If I remember correctly from a previous thread your abstinence was enforced by an accident, isn't that right? Keeping fit is probably a good one - can you go swimming regularly? At least it has to do with water!! Apart from that you already seem to have found what many use for a substitute - virtual diving on SB :D
I know that's all probably not much help but 'grin and bear it' isn't very constructive either. At least the next 6 months is through the winter - weather and temperatures probably won't be very condusive (unless your passion is ice-diving!)
Maybe you could take up hatha yoga - it's very good breathing practice, and might help to keep yourself calm and focused (not that I mean to suggest that you aren't already!;) )

Hey now..

It was a play on words, and as this board is filled with highly entertaining individuals, I simply wanted a title that was....a little controversial, yet intriguing.

So why did you get all 'bent' when I wanted to play along with the title at the beginning?

Unfortunately it was a year between my last 2 dive trips. Ouch just thinking about it hurts. I agree with Drew just say no to abstinence - just wish it was that easy.

Longest time out of the water was 10 months. At the time I was concentrating on work.

You can...
1. Stay fit by working out even walking some every day would be better than nothing. You could go swimming at least you would be getting wet.

2. Take a class that doesn't require diving...CPR/first aid, equipment specialty, DAN O2

3. Surf scubaboard - talk about diving and live vicariously through the rest of us.

4. Read books about diving.

5. Find a local dive club that has regular meetings. Sometimes the club will bring in speakers that talk about exotic destinations, photography, medical items, etc. At least you would stay in the loop and might even make some new friends so that when you are read to dive you will have a buddy.

Good luck.

Excellent fodder...thank you all.

And Jepuskar, please forgive me..I mistook your statement and thought you were a serious type...pleased to hear the contrary.. :)

I shall try yoga...and alas have no sprinklers but will perhaps run down my apartment hall instead - perfect site for a slip'nslide, while i think of it...thanks for that tip!!!

Sounds like there are quite a few kindred souls...so thank you all...and I definately don't feel as depressed anymore...I think it was a diving show that started this whole pity-pot thread....

Thanks again for the support...I'll go roll out the slip n' slide and round up the neihbors...
