Tips and Tricks to So. Cal. Lobster Hunting?

I'm not sure... but my guess is that the california spiny lobster doesn't extend down to the Sea of Cortez. Maybe there's a different kind of lobster? I'll let ya know ((80 degree water -> I swear I'm not rubbing it in, well, umm... honest, kinda sorta))

I don't know if they are the exact same species down there but I nabbed three nice bugs down in Puerto Vallarta last March and they sure taste like so-cal bugs!!! I was diving with a friend who owns a dive shop there and he took us to a restaurant where they took our bugs and chopped them in half lengthwise and broiled them along with huge coconut prawns and some fresh filets....that was the best dinner!!! So they do have some kind of bugs down pretty far south!!!

What kind of bag do you guys use?

Also, any good beach day dive sites you can recommend for the bugs?

More tips:

Should you manage to get a bug in a hole -wedged in:
If you only have it by the antenna, let go and let live. Break off both antennae - it will die eventually.
If you have it by the nubs (base of antenna) it can be shaken until it is disoriented and worked out. A straight tug-of-war you will lose...
Use kevlar gloves.
Build some habitat - stack up some rocks here and there to make holes. It will pay in the long run.
Use a 'slam bag' - a bag with a 2' radius spring hoop, all cordura on top, mesh only on the bottom. Hoop holds a one-way flap taut. Grab bug, slam it in. No worries.
Any kind of bag - invert, shake. Bugs will rise to the top.

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING IS KIND OF DISGUSTING!!!

To clean them is kind of like watching fear factor and is not for the queezy. First you twist the tail off the body, which is kind of gross in itself, but it gets worse. Now you need to remove the tailpipe from the tail. Find the front half of the lobster(they are usually making a break for it while you are distracted with their tail) and break off about 2/3rds of one of the antennas. Now hold the pointy end of the antenna and poke the broken part up the hole in the back of the tail. Push it in all the way and then pull it back out. The spines on the antenna all point forward so it is easy to go in but coming out it will grab the tailpipe and pull it out of the tail. Now you have a clean tail ready to cook!!!

I cook mine on the barbeque. First I take some scissors and cut off the flippers off the tail. Then lay them on the grill, away from open flame, and let them cook about 10 minutes or until the meat sticking out the front is white instead of opaque. Then I take a pair of kitchen shears and cut up the belly of the tail and open the tail up. Turn off the BBQ and close the lid and let them finish cooking while the BBQ cools down. If you get some HUGE tails, this technique doesn't work as well since the meat gets tough before the whole tail cooks, so you are better off using the big ones for recipes like bisque or cooking in a steamer or something.

The only thing I do different is I cut the tail with the poultry sissors before I BBQ them
